What the federal standard means here

Federal WARN requires 60 days written notice before a covered plant closing or mass layoff, and reaches employers with 100 or more employees.

Because Georgia adds no state requirement, a layoff below those thresholds can be entirely lawful with no notice at all, and will not appear in the filings on this page. What WARN does not cover.

Why short notice is not automatically a violation

WARN allows reduced notice for unforeseeable business circumstances, faltering companies seeking capital, and natural disasters. An employer relying on one of those has to say so in the notice. What the 36 percent figure shows is that the 60 days people expect is not what they typically get.
